Darryl has spent almost 30 years as a civil litigator. He divides his practice between plaintiff personal injury cases (including motor vehicle, slip and fall, historic sexual assault, human rights and class action cases), as well a broad-based commercial litigation practice involving shareholder, partnership, and real estate disputes; injunctions; debt collection and mortgage enforcement. He also defends lawyers and other professionals at their discipline tribunals. He continues to be sought after by solo lawyers and small firms as trial counsel.

Darryl has spoken and written publicly about his personal story overcoming addiction, including nationally in the Globe and Mail, National Post, CBC Radio One, Huffington Post and Newstalk 1010. He is the monthly Wellness Columnist for The Lawyers’ Daily (now Law360). He has talked about his lived experiences for, among others: Law Society of Ontario; Law Society of Manitoba; Law Society of the Northwest Territories; Federation of Law Societies of Canada; The Advocates’ Society; Ontario Bar Association; Ontario Paralegal Association; Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers; Federation of Ontario Law Associations; various local law associations; 3 of the largest national Bay Street law firms; Osgoode Hall Law School; University of Windsor Law; several Rotary Clubs, and Markham Stouffville Hospital.

Within the profession, he is on the Board of the York Region Law Association where he chairs the Civil Litigation Committee. He served recently on the Board of the Osgoode Hall Alumni Association as well as committees of the Toronto Lawyers’ Association. He was an adjunct professor at Osgoode Hall School where he taught a number of disciplines including professional ethics and he acted as an advocacy coach and mentor at the Ryerson University Law Practice Program. 

He is an active peer volunteer with the Law Society’s Members Assistance Program. He frequently acts as Pro Bono Law Ontario duty counsel at the Toronto Small Claims Court, the Superior Court of Justice in Toronto, and the Court of Appeal. He is also pro bono duty counsel at the Law Society Tribunal.
