Cheryl Rich Heisler, President/Founder of LAWTERNATIVES™, offers individualized career consulting to lawyers and law students exploring career paths inside, outside and around traditional legal options.
Ms. Heisler graduated from the University of Illinois College of Communications in 1980 with Highest Honors and received her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law in 1983. After practicing corporate law in Chicago with the national firm of Katten Muchin, she re-careered into a marketing and brand management role with Kraft, Inc. That change set the foundation for her ongoing facility for/fascination with career transition.
Since forming LAWTERNATIVES in 1988, Heisler has consulted with individual clients at all stages of their careers and lectures across the country on Alternative Careers and related topics. A professional speaker, Heisler has also been quoted in numerous business, legal and popular publications, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Chicago Tribune, Crain’s Chicago Business, U.S. News & World Report, The National Law Journal, Chicago Lawyer, Glamour and Cosmopolitan. Often interviewed on radio and TV as a career expert, her features have also aired on WBBM-AM Newsradio 780 in Chicago. Heisler is a former board member of the American Bar Association’s Legal Careers Committee and writes periodically for a number of legal publications including Law Practice Today, Experience Magazine and Student Lawyer.
Never content with just one career at a time, Heisler’s most recent professional foray carried her into the world of mixology. A licensed Mixologist, she creates signature cocktails and mocktails for individuals, theatres and corporate and non-profit groups of all sizes and is the Libations Columnist for a Chicago-area magazine.
