"Creating and Managing Effective Client Relationships: How to Avoid Malpractice and Properly Communicate with your Client (CLE)": 3:00 PM Eastern (12:00 PM Pacific)One of the most common reasons as to why a lawyer withdraws from a case, and why a client files a grievance against an attorney, is for “failure to communicate effectively." Join attorney Jordan Turk for a discussion on how attorneys can navigate their way through proper client communication (and avoid potential grievances). This CLE will include an overview of the top issues that lead to grievances against attorneys, how to sharpen your interviewing skills to avoid headaches down the road, responding to client complaints, best practices for communication throughout the lifespan of a case (including billing disputes), and how to handle client behavioral issues. Jordan Turk Jordan Turk is a practicing attorney in Texas and the Legal Content and Compliance Manager at LawPay. Her family law expertise includes appeals, pre and postnuptial agreements, as well as complex property division and highly contentious custody cases. In addition, Jordan has given CLEs across the country about online payments and trust account compliance. Jordan graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in Classics, History, and Religious Studies. She subsequently spent a year working for LawPay in Austin, then went on to attend the University of Arkansas School of Law to earn her J.D. After almost four years of practice with a high-asset family law firm in Houston, Jordan returned to LawPay. Jordan has authored and co-authored many articles that you can find in the Texas Bar Journal and around the internet. Passionate about giving back to her community, Jordan makes a point of taking pro bono cases whenever possible. In 2019, she was honored to be the recipient of the Harris County Bench Bar Pro Bono Award for Outstanding Service by an Individual. |
