Robert Lara

Biography

Robert LaraRobert Lara has been a licensed attorney since 2009 and is currently the Staff Attorney with the 3rd Judicial District Court in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He provides legal analysis and recommendations regarding statutes, administrative rules, and case law affecting judicial actions before the Court. He also manages the Court’s Self-Help Clinic, which serves Pro Se litigants in civil cases, primarily domestic matters. He was honored by the State Bar of New Mexico with the 2016 Outstanding Legal Program of the Year for his work as a Staff Attorney at the 3rd Judicial District Court Self Help Center.

Mr. Lara has served as an attorney for private law firms, federal and state government, and non-profit organizations. Mr. Lara’s legal experience has focused on election law, land use, public relations, contracts, torts, labor law, and family law. In addition, he has represented various clients, organizations, political campaigns, and candidates as a part of his work with the Democratic Party of New Mexico. Mr. Lara also volunteers his legal expertise to the New Mexico Dachshund Rescue Association.  

In addition to his professional obligations, Mr. Lara is a Bar Commissioner for the New Mexico State Bar and Assistant District V Justice for Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International. Mr. Lara is originally from El Paso, Texas. He is a 2007 graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Law, where he was awarded the Deans Award for Outstanding Service to the University. Outside of the legal profession, Mr. Lara can be found spinning a turntable as a DJ as a part of Complete Weddings + Events NM, training for a triathlon with his dachshund Chewi, or taking a spin out on a dance floor with his bride, Rosenda.
