Spring 2025Pre-Law Winners:
Emma Barrett (Southern Methodist University Pre-Law Chapter) Emma Barrett is a graduating senior at Southern Methodist University, where she double majored in Political Corporate Communication and Public Affairs and Psychology. During her time at SMU, she gained hands-on experience at two law firms and held three leadership roles in Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity. Known for her strong networking skills and creativity, she also excels in marketing and social media, with a growing personal brand across multiple platforms. She plans to spend her gap year working in real estate to further develop her business skills before pursuing a career in law.
Paige Gonterman (Texas Tech University Pre-Law Chapter) My name is Paige Gonterman, and I am from Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am entering my sophomore year at Texas Tech University, majoring in University Studies with concentrations in History, Business, and Legal Studies. Next semester, I will serve on the executive board of my Phi Alpha Delta chapter as Treasurer, following my previous role as Fundraising Chair. I am also a member of the mock trial team and will be assisting in coaching the team in the coming semesters. Additionally, I am involved in the Women in Pre-Law Society and have the honor of serving as a Pre-Law Ambassador. Through these organizations, I actively participate in community service efforts and work to make a positive impact on campus and within the pre-law community. I am passionate about building meaningful connections and learning from those around me, with the ultimate goal of attending law school and becoming the best attorney I can be. I am looking forward to gaining hands-on experience this summer as a Secretarial Assistant at a civil litigation law firm and cannot wait to see what else my future holds!
Law Winners:
Frederick Hulse (Hooper Chapter) My name is Frederick Hulse, and I am a second-year law student at Elon University School of Law. I was born in the UK to two amazing English parents, and I have had the privilege of living in New York, North Carolina, the UK, and the Netherlands. Moving so often has given me a unique perspective on different cultures and ways of life, which I carry into my legal studies and professional aspirations.
Caroline Piskurich (C. Clark Chapter) Caroline Piskurich is a rising 3rd year law student at Washington University School of Law, where she serves as Chief Sources Editor for the Washington University Journal of Law and Policy. A Vice Justice of Phi Alpha Delta and Treasurer of the Women’s Law Caucus, Caroline exemplifies leadership and a commitment to service. Her experience includes representing veterans at the Yale Law School Veterans Legal Services Clinic, Washington University’s Veterans Law Clinic, and interning with a U.S. District Court and federal and state legislative offices.
Fall 2024Pre-Law Winners:
Gerardo Garza-Lash (Texas State University Pre-Law Chapter) Gerardo is a proud native of Brownsville, Texas, and an impending graduate of Texas State University, where he will earn a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Forensic Psychology. During his undergraduate studies, he has achieved Dean’s List honors in five of six semesters and was awarded the prestigious Rudy Mesa Memorial Endowed Scholarship and the William M. and Emily W. Pruitt Criminal Justice Scholarship. In the summer of 2023, Gerardo participated in The Lex Fellowship, a Pre-Law program in Madrid, Spain, where he gained hands-on experience interning at law firms. He plans to pursue a paralegal certificate at the University of Texas at Austin after graduation and plans to gain valuable experience in the legal field before ultimately attending law school. Gerardo is passionate about using his education and experiences to make meaningful contributions to the legal profession.
Katelyn Osborne (University of San Diego Pre-Law Chapter) Katelyn is a senior student at the University of San Diego (USD) double majoring in Philosophy and French and Francophone Studies with a music minor. Currently, she works as a paralegal at a family law firm after starting as a legal assistant for the firm. She has served on the executive board of USD’s Phi Alpha Delta for two terms, formerly as Professional Development chair, and currently in two positions of Speaker Coordinator and Recruitment Chair. In these positions she has helped members prepare for careers in the legal field, coordinated with lawyers and other law professionals to present at meetings, and carrying out the chapter’s biannual recruitments while managing their social media. She is also involved on campus as Chapter President for the women’s fraternity, Pi Beta Phi, as a French tutor, Scholastic Assistant, member of the Honor’s Program, Health Equities Fellow, vocal jazz ensemble and choral scholars, and outside of campus as a volunteer for the Red Cross. After college, she plans to join a dual degree program for a Juris Doctor focusing on health or corporate law and a Master of Business Administration.
Law Winners:
Christina Doncell (Robinson Chapter) Christina Doncell is a 3L from Plano, Texas, attending the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the Part-Time Division. She is deeply passionate about social and corporate justice, as well as advancing equality for individuals across socioeconomic statuses, ethnic and racial groups, gender identities, LGBTQ+ communities, and neurodiverse populations. Christina’s love for trial advocacy led her to establish the Robinson Chapter Mock Trial Program in 2022, a program she has successfully maintained each year. Beyond her leadership in trial advocacy, she is a member of the Phi Alpha Delta G.O.L.D. Leadership Program, serves as Managing Editor for the UA Little Rock Law Review, leads as President of the Latin American Law Students Association (LALSA), and holds the distinguished position of National Chair for the National Latina/o Law Student Association (NLLSA). Christina’s dedication to service and advocacy exemplifies her unwavering commitment to breaking barriers and empowering others to achieve success.
Tuvia Greenberg (Tuttle Chapter) Tuvia Greenberg is a second-year law student at Purdue University Global who is passionate about using his legal education to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Outside of law school, Tuvia volunteers as an EMT, where he values the opportunity to serve his community during critical moments. He enjoys spending time with his wife and four small children, playing guitar, and studying Talmudic law. Tuvia is excited to continue learning and growing as he works toward a career in the legal profession.
Spring 2024Pre-Law Winners:
Edward Daniels (Rutgers University Pre-Law Chapter) Edward (Edan) Daniels is a senior at Rutgers University, majoring in Political Science and specialization in Critical Intelligence. In his time at Rutgers, he was an active member of Rutgers' P.A.D. pre-law chapter and was a member of a student-led Palestinian-Israeli Peace discussion group. Edan was also awarded the Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence (IC CAE) Fellowship and was a research fellow at the National Intelligence University in Washington, D.C. He is a member of the Society of Scholars and seeks to work with attorneys who are involved in Military Intelligence or analytical political science topics dealing with government surveillance and the individual rights to privacy. He will be attending Graduate School in the Fall of 2024. Edan is very excited is to accept a scholarship from the Society of Scholars in P.A.D. which he intends to use towards the research and publication of a journal article on the use of Artificial Intelligence and internet privacy law.
Alcide Pereda (University of Central Florida Pre-Law Chapter) Alcide Pereda is a senior at the University of Central Florida (UCF), where he is pursuing a BA in Political Science and Legal Studies with a minor in Crime, Deviance, and the Law. He has been an active member of several honor societies, including Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) and Sigma Alpha Pi National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS). Pereda has received several academic honors, including President's Honor Roll and UCF Knights of Distinction recognition. Showing a strong interest in the legal field, Pereda is actively taking part in the LSAC Plus Guided Program, which is providing him with important exposure and guidance in preparing for his future professional legal career. His current goal is to attend law school after completing his undergraduate degree, focusing specifically on criminal law and restorative justice.
Law Winners:
Kendall Coughlin (Casey Chapter) Kendall Coughlin is a rising 3L at Ave Maria School of Law, in Naples, Florida. She is a graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University, with a double major in Economics and Finance. She was recently elected Justice of Phi Alpha Delta's Casey Chapter and previously served as Treasurer during her 1L year. She also serves in leadership positions on both the school's Law Review and Moot Court Board and was a finalist in the St. Thomas More 1L Oral Advocacy Competition. She is honored to receive this scholarship, as it will help her to continue her legal education and further her career aspirations so she can make a difference in her community and the legal profession.
Kristin Hommel (Penn Chapter) Kristin Hommel is a rising 3L at Penn State Law. Outside of her membership in P.A.D., Kristin serves as President of the Immigration Law Society, Managing Editor of Digital Content on the Journal of International Affairs, Editor-in-Chief of the Immigration Law Blog at Penn State Law, and Law School Delegate to the Graduate and Professional Student Association. Kristin’s dream is to practice immigration law and establish her own immigration law practice focused on providing empathetic representation. She is extremely grateful to P.A.D. for choosing her for the Phi Alpha Delta Society of Scholars Scholarship, assisting her in financing her last year of law school so that she may pursue her goals.
Fall 2023Pre-Law Winners:
Maria Bello (Coe College Pre-Law Chapter) Maria Bello is currently a sophomore at Coe College studying Psychology and Social & Criminal Justice. She has been an active member of P.A.D. ever since the chapter was established at Coe College last year and is also a member of the Society of Scholars. She served as Secretary and is currently the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion officer. Maria looks forward to pursuing law school upon graduating and hopes to get more experiences in the near future with lawyers in her area.
Nicholas Salerno (Temple University Pre-Law Chapter) Nicholas is a senior Legal Studies major with an International Business and Military Science minor at the Fox School of Business at Temple University. As an active Temple P.A.D. member over the last four years, he has served as member, professional development chair, and currently, Vice President. As the professional development chair, Nicholas had the honor and ability of networking with countless attorneys from the legal field along with hosting a Law School Fair. As the Vice President, he expanded the general body membership from forty members to over one hundred members. Nicholas is currently working on hosting events and meetings with other local P.A.D. chapters and creating a membership, internship and LSAT program. He is grateful to receive this scholarship and is eager to continue his role as Vice President up to his Spring 2024 graduation and his lifelong legacy with P.A.D.
Law Winners:
Brooke Fudoli (Robinson Chapter) Brooke Fudoli is a 2L at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law in the part-time program while simultaneously working full-time as a Freight Audit Analyst. She is an apprentice on the UALR Law Review and a part-time honor investigator on the Honor Council. She is involved in multiple student organizations as well as Bowen’s Center for Racial Justice and Criminal Justice Reform.
Elaine Montgomery (Dooley Chapter) Elaine Montgomery is a 3L at Northern Illinois University (NIU) College of Law. Elaine is currently Justice of Phi Alpha Delta's (P.A.D.) Dooley Chapter and previously served as Marshal during her 2L year. Elaine was also awarded the Anthony A. DiGrazia Scholarship by P.A.D.'s West Suburban Alumni Chapter. In addition to P.A.D., Elaine serves on the executive board for the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, Moot Court Society, and the International Law Student's Association. Elaine also participated in NIU's Lenny B. Mandell Moot Court Competition, as well as the Appellate Lawyer Association's 2023 National Moot Court Competition. Elaine is grateful to have been awarded the Phi Alpha Delta Society of Scholars Scholarship, as it will assist in Elaine's goal to practice criminal law in Arizona.
Spring 2023Pre-Law Winners:
Sia Aleem (University of Florida Pre-Law Chapter) Sia is a graduate of the University of Florida, with a double major in Criminology and Philosophy. In her four years as an active member of UF's P.A.D. pre-law chapter, she held many executive board and officer roles, competed in mock trial, and had the pleasure of meeting wonderful people. Sia was also awarded the Fredrick J. Weitkamp Outstanding Secretary 2nd Place Award, the Runner-up Best Defense Attorney In-House Mock Trial Award, and is a member of the Society of Scholars. She enjoys working under attorneys who value mentorship and entrepreneurship and will be attending law school in the Fall of 2024. Sia is eager to continue her lifelong membership with P.A.D. wherever her journey takes her.
Lilah Goldberg (Northwestern University Pre-Law Chapter) Lilah Goldberg is an undergraduate student at Northwestern University pursuing a B.S. in Education and Social Policy with a concentration in Human Development in Context, and a second major in Global Health. She looks forward to pursuing a career in law addressing complex challenges and creating meaningful change. Lilah is very grateful to have been awarded the honorary Phi Alpha Delta Society of Scholars Fall 2023 Scholarship and she looks forward to the opportunities that this scholarship will allow her to pursue.
Law Winners:
Natalie Carleo (Bradwell Chapter) Natalie Carleo graduated from Barry University School of Law in May 2023. She graduated Cum Laude with an Honors Certificate in Child and Family Law. While at Barry, she was also a part of the Criminal Law Society, Women’s Legal Association, and the Inn of Courts. She also spent two semesters working with Barry’s Juvenile Defense Clinic as a Certified Legal Intern. Natalie passed the July 2023 FL bar exam, and has accepted the position as an Associate Attorney at Grossman Law, P.A., in Orlando, FL.
Mayowa Olatunde (O'Niell Chapter) Mayowa Olatunde is a 2L student in the Common Law Division at Loyola University New Orleans, College of Law. He is a Loyola Law Review Candidate and a board member of the Tech and Business Law Society (TBLS) and Phi Alpha Delta (PAD). Lastly, he is an oralist on the Black Law Student Society (BLSA) Moot Court team.
Fall 2022Pre-Law Winners:
Emma Barrett (Southern Methodist University Pre-Law Chapter) Emma Barrett is a sophomore undergraduate student at Southern Methodist University and is the Membership Chair of SMU’s Phi Alpha Delta. She is double majoring in Corporate Communications and Public Affairs and Strategic Communications and Public Relations. Her current plan for the future is to attend law school to study criminal or family law. She plans to hold a leadership position in P.A.D. for the entirety of her college career.
Millie Martinez Sosa (Rowan University Pre-Law Chapter) Millie Martinez Sosa is an undergraduate student at Rowan University majoring in Law and Justice Studies and minoring in Political Science. In the Fall of 2023, Millie plans to attend law school and is interested in studying criminal law. Millie desires to become a prosecutor in the future with the hopes of helping and guiding individuals, specifically the Spanish-speaking community, through the intricacies of the law. Law Winners:
Daniel Cardwell (Reno Chapter) Daniel Cardwell is a 3L at The Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Riverview, Florida. He completed the Business Transaction Concentration, earning elective credits in bankruptcy law, taxation of business entities, securities regulation, and UCC Article III negotiable instruments. Daniel earned his B.A., magna cum laude, and M.A. from the University of South Florida and M.A. from Northern Arizona University. Daniel is the Clerk and 2022 Convention Delegate for the Janet Reno Chapter.
Paige Harris (Robinson Chapter) Originally from Northamptonshire, United Kingdom, Paige is a 2L at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, William H. Bowen School of Law where she is Justice of the Robinson Chapter. Paige is also an apprentice on the UA Little Rock Law Review, a Student Bar Association Senator, a member of the Bowen Trial Team, and a Student Ambassador in the Admissions Office. In 2023, she will be working at the Department of Agriculture, the Arkansas Securities Department, and the Arkansas Department of Health (as well as supporting the amazing team at Bowen Law Admissions).
Spring 2022Pre-Law Winners:
Laura Derbonne (New York University Pre-Law Chapter; transitioning to Martin Chapter) Laura Derbonne is a recent graduate of New York University. This fall, she will attend Tulane Law School to prepare for a career in public interest law. Planning to focus particularly on disability rights and advocacy, Laura is motivated to cultivate change by her perspective as an autistic woman. In her free time, she enjoys trivia, collecting knowledge about her special interests, and listening to Harry Styles.
Hannah Alicia Smith (New York University Pre-Law Chapter; transitioning to Wormser Chapter) Hannah Alicia Smith is an incoming 1L at Fordham University School of Law. She recently graduated with distinction from New York University, earning degrees in Politics and Classical Instrument Performance. She is planning to specialize in Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law. Hannah was a member of her Pre-Law Chapter all four years of her undergraduate studies and served on the executive board as the membership and academic chair. Law Winners:
Kelly Aeschlimann (Washington Chapter) My name is Kelly Aeschlimann, and I am a rising 3L at Regent University School of Law. I am the Justice of the Washington Chapter, the AMCA Moot Court Competition Director, and a Senior Editor for Law Review. I have an interest in real estate law, and am currently a Law Clerk at Shaheen Law Firm in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Charles Horikami (Washington Chapter) Charles Horikami is a rising 2L at Regent University School of Law. Before going to law school he taught U.S. History and Computer Science in Idaho Public Schools, has served on a planning and zoning commission, and was elected to serve on his city council. His legal interests are in property law and legal writing, but he has also found interest in international, space, cyber, and cryonics law. This summer he is working as a judicial intern with the Supreme Court of Uganda.
Fall 2021Pre-Law Winners:
Kayce Bassman is an undergrad at the University of Cincinnati majoring in Political Science and Criminal Justice. She is applying to law school for the Fall of 2022 and plans to study criminal law. Kayce has always had a passion for the legal field because she wants to make a difference in society, and represent the underdogs and help them get the justice they deserve.
Rosanna Jiana is studying Legal Studies at St. John's University where she serves as the Vice President of Phi Alpha Delta.
Law Winners:
Francisca Perez is a 2L at the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law. She received my B.A. in Political Science and B.S in Criminology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Her legal interests currently include immigration and criminal law.
Matthew Ramirez is a UC Irvine 3L visiting at UCLA Law for the 2021-2022 academic year, focusing his studies on environmental, natural resource, and land use law. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Princeton University in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, with certificates in Environmental Studies and in Planets & Life (Astrobiology). A self-identified tree expert, he is passionate about the protection of species, wildlife, public lands, and green spaces, as well as his beloved home state, California.
Spring 2021Pre-Law Winners:
Claire Gupta is a recent college honors graduate of the University of Washington with a B.A. in Law, Societies, and Justice and minors in Human Rights and Entrepreneurship. She was inspired to pursue law after becoming the first high school intern at Life After Innocence, a legal clinic of Loyola University Chicago School of Law that helped the exonerated start their lives again. In college, Claire started her first company when she was 21 years old, and she also completed a departmental honors thesis on the global expansion of LGBTIQ+ rights. This fall, Claire will be attending UC Berkeley School of Law for her J.D. where she hopes to continue to explore the ways that law, social justice, and entrepreneurship intersect.
Nicholas is a junior at the University of Arizona majoring in Biomedical Engineering. Born and raised in Tucson, Nicholas dreams of attending law school and becoming a patent attorney who specializes in medical devices. When he's not studying or doing research, he loves playing guitar and spending time with his two cats.
Law Winner:
Originally from Western North Carolina, Elizabeth Cox is a rising 2L at the University of Tennessee College of Law where she is the Vice Justice of P.A.D. Sanford Chapter. During her first year of law school she sharpened her advocacy skills as a member of Sanford Chapter’s mock trial team. This summer, Elizabeth is working for a Knoxville attorney that practices family law and criminal defense in counties all over East Tennessee. Elizabeth hopes to continue developing her advocacy skills so she can provide excellent representation to clients from all walks of life in rural Appalachia. In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys playing trivia at local breweries with her friends.
