International Board Member-at-Large C. Duane Close, II

Biography

C. Duane Close II (Tidewater Alumni Chapter) is an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney with the City of Norfolk, VA. He is a graduate of Regent University School of Law (RUSL) where he served as the Chair of the Black Law Students Association; Clerk of the George Washington Chapter and Secretary of the International Executive Board Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Council for Phi Alpha Delta; Law School Representative for the Council of Graduate Students; Student Member of the RUSL Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council; and a Ronald L. Fick Book Award Recipient. He has served as a Judicial Intern for the Suffolk General District Court and served as a Legal Intern and Apprentice for the Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney’s Office prior to his employment there. 

Duane is a native of Cando, ND. He graduated Cum Laude from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Minor in Political Science. He served twenty years in the US Navy as a Naval Flight Officer, flying the S-3B Viking and the F/A-18F Super Hornet. He completed five carrier deployments and one ground deployment as a Fires Support Officer and Forward Air Controller with a Joint Special Operations Task Force. In total, he amassed around 2500 flight hours and 700 arrested landings aboard four different aircraft carriers on both coasts. He retired with the rank of Commander on September 1, 2020.
