Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We are all too aware of the unprecedented impact that the COVID-19 outbreak has had on our lives already, and we are all aware that public health professionals are predicting that this outbreak will get much worse, and probably very soon. There is no point to sugarcoating any of this.
Your Phi Alpha Delta leadership is committed to taking whatever steps we can to limit the risk to our members and staff. Our staff members are already working remotely, and our remaining spring District Leadership and Transition Conferences have been moved to online events.
We are also looking at contingency plans for our upcoming national events, including P.A.D. Day at the Supreme Court, and the 2020 Convention currently scheduled to take place August 5-8 in Orlando.
For P.A.D. Day at the Supreme Court, we will be looking to the Court’s guidance on when, or whether, the Court will reopen to the public this term.
Regarding Convention, it is our goal to have a Convention in some format that will be safe and valuable for our members. It may not look very much like any Convention we have had before. We know that many of you look forward to spending time with your brothers and sisters at Convention, and that you have travel plans and other arrangements to make if the Convention does go forward as an in-person event. However, we need to be mindful of the health and safety of all our members and staff. A group of our board members are developing contingency plans for Convention, in the event that it cannot take place as currently scheduled. We will keep you informed, and we will make our final decision in time for you to make your travel plans.
All of you are in our thoughts. Please be safe. Please follow all the applicable CDC guidelines. And let us know if there is anything we can do for you.
Until we meet in person again.
Your International Executive Board
