All P.A.D. chapters are encouraged to apply for a Competition Grant if they intend to send a team or teams to the 2023 Law School Mock Trial Competition. To apply, please complete the application in its entirety. Applications are due by October 31, 2022.

As part of the P.A.D. election process, each district has one representative serve on the Nominations Committee. This member is appointed by the District Justice. The following districts do not have a District Justice, and we are seeking interested law student and alumni members from these districts who may be interested in serving on the Nominations Committee:

• District XI
• District XIV
• District XXVII
• District XXVIII
• District XXXIII

The Nominations Committee will be charged with interviewing candidates for the International Executive Board and International Tribunal and recommending a slate of candidates. Elections will take place during the Biennial Convention this August. The Nominations Committee will meet virtually in advance of Convention; the time commitment is expected to be about 10-12 virtual hours, spread out over several meetings. If you are interested in serving as the representative from your District, please email P.A.D. Deputy Director Emily Baranoski at emily@pad.org indicating your interest and why you would be best to serve by Monday, March 7, 2022.

Today is a milestone day for Phi Alpha Delta as we return to the first in-person national event since 2020.

The Phi Alpha Delta Law School Mock Trial Competition begins today! We wish all of the competitors luck through the weekend and safe travels to all including students, judges, volunteers, and guests.

This year’s Pre-Law Conference and Mock Trial Competition will take place fully virtually November 3-5, 2021. Registration for the Mock Trial Competition is $200.00 per team, which includes entry into the competition for four student competitors, all competition materials, AND registration for each team member for the Pre-Law Conference. It is expected all competitors will also attend conference sessions.

The Basics:

• When is the Competition? The 2021 Competition will be held virtually February 25-27, 2021. We are in need of changes for each day (see the judge sign up form for detailed scheduling).
• Who Can Judge? Anyone in good standing with their state bar can be a judge
• Will there be Training? Yes, there will be a judge training session on Zoom in mid-February.
• What’s the Time Commitment? Each round is about 2.5 to 3 hours.

Interested judges may volunteer for as many rounds as you like. Judges do not need to be P.A.D. members, they just need to be licensed and in good standing with their state bar.

The event parameters and judging format have been adjusted to accommodate the virtual format. All interested judges should review the Judge Requirements and Information and the 2021 Competition Details before volunteering.

Judges must be licensed and in good standing with your state bar. You do not need to be a judge or a P.A.D. member to volunteer. No previous mock trial judging experience is necessary, as we provide judge training (which will take place virtually in mid February 2021) and a manual. The time commitment per round is about two and a half hours. Judges may volunteer for as many rounds as you like.

The P.A.D. Law School Mock Trial Competition is an annual competition where teams from P.A.D. law chapters across the country compete for first through fourth place, with additional honors for outstanding defense, prosecution, advocates, and witnesses awarded. The competition is judged by volunteer lawyers & judges (both P.A.D. alumni and non-members) and Mock Trial veterans who offer invaluable, real-world feedback.

The Walk to Convention is a national challenge leading up to P.A.D.’s Biennial Convention for event attendees (law students and alumni). The challenge promotes physical exercise and friendly competition among attendees. For the 2020 Walk to Convention, the challenge has been set for members to complete 500 miles walked by August 5, 2020.
