  • Webinar Series: Bias, Hate and Free Speech Online

    Brothers and Sisters,

Our next members only webinar will take place Tuesday, November 12th at 6 p.m. Eastern. We are excited to bring you this more important and timely topic.

Online hate and harassment is pervasive and its impact is increasing. Find out how someone becomes a target, the goals of a perpetrator, and where the law is falling short. We’ll illuminate the real-world effects online harassers create for victims and targets, and the legal loopholes that allow this harassment to thrive. We’ll also consider emerging methods of disinformation, what platforms are doing, and the steps needed to promote better policy and legislation.

    OUR GUEST PRESENTER:
Lauren Krapf (Ford Chapter) -  National Policy Counsel for the Anti-Defamation League

Lauren Krapf serves as National Policy Counsel for the Anti-Defamation League. In this capacity, she oversees ADL’s civil rights work and policy initiatives to decrease hate online and promote the use of technology to counter bias. Lauren also serves as ADL’s counsel for free speech and civil rights issues on college and university campuses.

Prior to joining ADL, she worked as a litigation associate in Los Angeles at Burke Williams & Sorensen, where she was the co-founder and lead of the law firm's Harassment and Bias Intervention Training (HABIT) Series.  Lauren started her legal career as a Fellow of the American Board of Trial Advocates and went on to practice civil litigation.

She has appeared in state and federal courts, authored appellate briefs, and argued before the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Lauren graduated from Indiana University as an Ernie Pyle Scholar and from Loyola Law School as Chief Note and Comment Editor of the International and Comparative Law Review and Marshal of her Phi Alpha Delta chapter.

A special THANK YOU to International Marshal, Nicole Grida for her excellent presentation.

  • P.A.D. Webinar: Maintaining Health & Wellness in the Legal Profession

Join P.A.D.’s International Marshal Nicole Grida on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. EST for a special one-hour presentation for Phi Alpha Delta members.

“What do doctors, attorneys, and CEOs have in common? No, this isn’t a joke… These are all occupations that have the highest rates of stress and depression among all occupations.” – The American Bar Association (ABA).

This is an issue that begins, for many attorneys, in and before law school.

While everyone faces challenges in their careers when it comes to a healthy work-life balance, for law students and legal professionals it can be additionally challenging. Long hours, deadlines, court appearances, family commitments, health management, and personal time are difficult to fit into a standard 40 hour work week, let alone a 60-70 hour standard work week for legal professionals.

Nicole's presentation offers valuable tools to help organize your schedule and manage your overall health and wellbeing.

    Topics Include:
    Work-life balance
Tips and techniques for managing stress
    Wellness best practices

This webinar is designed for all P.A.D. members. The webinar will be presented across the Phi Alpha Delta Webex platform. It is recommended that you download the Cisco Webex application if you are using a mobile device to participate.

Bringing a little bit of joy to each other is a way to inspire each other and let each other know that we're not alone.

Feel free to put as much time and personalization into the card as you'd like. The most important part is writing some kind and encouraging words inside to uplift and inspire.
