October 31, 2012 - Spotlight on P.A.D. MSC Alyssa Congdon (Rockefeller Chapter)

Alyssa S. Congdon (Rockefeller Chapter) is another of P.A.D.’s wonderful MSCs. Originally from Stillwater, NY, Alyssa attended Roger Williams University (RWU) and Albany Law School as a Phi Alpha Delta member. During her senior year at RWU, she was the Vice President for her Pre-Law Chapter. While in law school she played a major role in the rebuilding of Rockefeller Chapter where she was the Vice Justice and would later serve as Justice. As MSC, she dedicates herself to making sure other Chapters succeed.

"I see P.A.D.as a great opportunity for both law students and alumni, and as a strong sense of community in an otherwise dog-eat-dog career field. Traveling to Chapters that are struggling and offering them a hand allows me to give back to the organization that has given to me, and help others see the benefits that P.A.D. can offer."

Alyssa, Jenny, and Jose are dedicated MSCs and understand the purpose of their duties. P.A.D. would like to thank our MSCs and fraternally express appreciation for the P.A.D. members committing themselves to uphold the responsibilities required of them. The Fraternity wants to ensure members succeed, for service to the community and its members is the purpose of P.A.D.’s existence.

October 23, 2012 - Spotlight on P.A.D. MSC Jenny Tang (Robert E. Redding Alumni Chapter)

The last Spotlight introduced to you one of the three current MSCs, Jose. This week, learn about Jenny Tang and her experience as P.A.D. MSC.

Jenny J. Tang (Robert E. Redding Alumni Chapter) is from Nashville, TN and is one of P.A.D.’s newly hired MSCs. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University Of Tennessee with a B.A. in Honors English Literature and Criminal Justice and earned her J.D. at the University Of Tennessee College Of Law with a concentration in Business Transactions.

At the University Of Tennessee College Of Law, Jenny was McReynolds Chapter’s Service Committee Chair and, during her last semester, made P.A.D. a co-sponsor for the building of a Habitat for Humanity with two prominent firms in Nashville.

She recently passed the Tennessee Bar and will apply for waiver into the D.C. Bar.  She recently moved to D.C. with her newly wedded husband, Nathan, and joined the Redding Alumni Chapter in D.C. As an MSC, Jenny has been exposed to new ideas, people, networking opportunities has visited various Chapters.

"That's what's so great about P.A.D. - it connects law students with the legal community, so that they gain both insight about the actual practice of law and a huge network of fellow PADders, no matter where they decide to practice. I get to meet new people from all over who are or soon will be in my network. It's nice to give law students the assurance that they have a huge professional and social network after graduation. "

MSCs attending District Conferences has proven to be beneficial for Jenny. She has learned about each Chapter's creative and successful programs. She is able to share those ideas that exemplify to potential P.A.D. members how beneficial P.A.D. can be.

October 9, 2012 - Spotlight on P.A.D.'s Membership Services Consultants

What is an MSC?

Membership Services Consultants (MSCs) are liaisons between Law School Chapters and the Executive Office (E.O.). MSCs travel at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters to struggling Law School Chapters to provide officers with the necessary information to make their Chapter successful. Chapters are typically visited because they need a boost in membership and help with recruitment. Leadership, professional programming, and recruitment are also common issues that struggling Chapters face. MSCs forward information about the Chapter and institution to give the E.O. insight on what the needs are for that Chapter. Overall, MSCs allow the Fraternity to be more hands on and aware to effectively assist the needs of the Chapters.

A typical MSC is a recent graduate, someone who is knowledgeable about the Fraternity and the structure of Law School Chapters, and has time to travel on behalf of the fraternity. If the position of MSC interests you, please contact P.A.D. Headquarters for more information at info@pad.org. Currently, Jose Rafael Campos is one of three MSCs and is grateful for the opportunity.

Jose emigrated from El Salvador to the United States in 2001 and easily adjusted. Jose went to Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland where he obtained an A.A. degree in business. He later attended the University of Maryland College Park where he earned his B.S. in International Business. In 2009, Jose started law school at the University of the District of Columbia, and later in 2012, he obtained his J.D. degree. Jose’s experience as a MSC has been wonderful.

I find it fantastic to travel all over the country visiting law students who have the same P.A.D. connection. As a MSC I find myself to be the liaison between the Chapters and Executive Office. I understand the importance to make sure every Chapter is doing the best it can in order to positively affect the community. Being a P.A.D. traveler, I always feel welcomed by every Chapter I visit; they make me feel right at home.  The importance of my job is to inspire, assist, and brainstorm on new ideas to take the Chapter to where it needs to be; especially in the eyes of the Fraternity. Whether you are in pre-law, a law student, or alumni, every P.A.D. member should be connected with other members and should feel the bond of the Fraternity.

Jose is interested in commercial and business law, and he plans to open his own law firm after taking the February bar in 2013. We are happy to have him as a MSC. Next week, stay tuned to learn more about P.A.D.’s other wonderful MSCs.
