February 20, 2013: Spotlight on Steve Savva (Wormser Chapter)

Alum Starting Production on Television Series Follwing NYC Cab Drivers:
A LinkedIn Post by Stephen J. Savva, Esq. (Wormser Chapter)

Just a few days before Convention in August, two television networks began bidding on a television series I created and brought to my production partners at Bunim-Murray Productions in Los Angeles.

After several months of negotiations, a network won the bidding war and green lit two (2) airable half-hour pilot episodes, which are scheduled to begin shooting in NYC in early March. The series follows the lives of four NYC Yellow Cab drivers as they navigate the streets of the City of New York. We are filming with the express permission of the Mayor's Office and the City of New York, so we are extremely excited.

I can't disclose the network to you yet, but if all goes according to plan, the pilot episodes will hopefully lead to a full series order and the first episodes will air later this Summer.

If you live or work in NYC and are interested in volunteering to help us coordinate passenger releases during the pilot shoots in March, please feel free to contact me

Keep up the great work at your Chapters, keep networking with one another and most of all enjoy the benefits of membership in PAD!

We will post updates regularly!

Fraternally,

February 12, 2013: Spotlight on George Pearce (Story Chapter)

Brother George Pearce (Story Chapter) became a generous friend of Story Chapter when he offered use of Holland & Knight law firm for the annual Founders’ Day Auction, which benefits the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women’s Network. Thanks to his help organizing, the event raised over $8,000 for the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women’s Network.

A Chicago native, Brother George earned his undergraduate degree from Knox College, received his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law and received an L.L.M. from John Marshall.

At DePaul Law, Mr. Pearce met his wife, Mary. They were in the same section their first year, began dating their second year, got engaged their third year, and married after taking the bar in 1979. Mrs. Pearce works as an attorney for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of the General Counsel since 1979.

“My wife and I really enjoy the classmates we had at DePaul. We created lasting friendships. The comment professors always say is, ‘Be nice to your classmates because you will deal with them throughout your career,’—it’s very true.”

Brother George began his career as a law clerk at a small firm; a start that evolved into a 20 year job. He later joined McBride, Baker, & Coles, which was absorbed by Holland & Knight, a firm he’s worked for for nearly 11 years.

He currently represents family-owned businesses but has experience in manufacturing, professional design, architecture, engineering and estate planning.

“The businesses I’ve worked with have bought and sold other business; I have worked with that. My L.L.M. helped me in terms of succession planning, where a business is transferred to the next generation. There are several businesses that look to me as their corporate counsel. I have gone to China for work and have had many challenging experiences at Holland & Knight,” said Pearce.

Active in his community, he held a position on the Wilmette Zoning Board of Appeals, was an elected official of Wilmette, as Village Trustee, for eight years, is the current chair of the Wilmette Police and Fire Commission and a 20 year member of the Wilmette Harbor Rotary Club.

He has been on St. Joseph’s Parish council for years, is currently a member of a Citizens’ Advisory Board for Metra, which meets quarterly to provide citizen perspectives on transportation issues, is a board member in Michigan Shores Club in Wilmette and is on the Dean’s Council at DePaul Law.

“My wife calls me Mr. Meeting,” remarks Mr. Pearce.

Brother George truly gives back to law students. He is currently serving as an adjunct professor at John Marshall for their business transactions externship program, working on two matters this semester with students, mentoring law students and working with young associates at Holland & Knight.

We are proud to call George Pearce a brother and are thankful for his service to the student, the school, the profession and his community.
