February 28, 2012 - Spotlight on Hannah Knight (Fleming Chapter, Nova Southeastern University)

Submitted by Jason Haber, Assistant District XXXII Justice

Hannah Knight, Justice of Fleming Chapter of Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, is leading Fleming Chapter to new heights. Fleming Chapter has been nominated for the law center's Organization of the Year Award, which will be voted on by students, and presented at the annual Barrister's Ball. Additionally, Knight is the law school's nominee for the STUEY Student of the Year Award. STUEY's are university-wide awards that nominate only one student per school. Knight’s nomination will represent both P.A.D. and her law school in this regard.

As a testament to Knight’s achievements and commitments this year, she has also been nominated by the faculty at Nova Southeastern for the Stephanie Aleong Impact Award. The namesake of this award has a great deal of meaning; named in honor for Professor Aleong, who passed away from melanoma in 2008 at the age of 36.

In her years teaching, Professor Aleong became well known for taking a genuine interest in students' success and improvement. Saying she went the "extra mile" is an understatement. Knight’s nomination reflects her dedication to improving students' law school experience and dedication to the community. As Fleming Chapter Justice, Knight has taken that "extra mile" to new heights. We wish the best of luck to Hannah and Fleming Chapter on their continued success.

February 21, 2012 - Spotlight on Eric Heath (David Lipscomb University Pre-Law)

Eric Heath, Law, Justice & Society major and President of the Pre-Law Chapter at David Lipscomb University, led members in assisting various organizations to fundraise over $62,000 for community service initiatives in 2011. In collaboration with organizations, the student body and his academic programming, Heath proved himself a prime Phi Alpha Delta member and officer.

Extremely academically active, Heath is also a Senator for his student government, the Nashville contact for the organization Invisible Children, the Director of Schools 4 Schools, and a member of International Justice Mission, Alpha Chi Honors, Sigma Tau Delta Honors and Lipscomb University Honors College.

With his impressive resume, he plans to attend the University of Georgia Law School, A.H. Stephens Chapter, in the fall. His devotion and passion for assisting those in need has shaped his goal to ultimately work in International Law and, more specifically, for non-profit organizations.

When asked about his P.A.D. experience thus far, Heath said, “[It has] really helped me figure out where I want to go with my future career, as well as where I want to attend law school.” In the coming semester, he plans to lead his Chapter to help the homeless in the Nashville area by working at emergency shelters, among other community service initiatives.
